Road Surface Roughness Measuring by the FWD Impact Device
We measure the road deflection by the FWD/HWD impact device (in accordance with ČSN 73 6192 Impact Weight Tests of Roads and Subsoil), which in select points (usually with 25-meter spacing) measures the deflection under a weight simulating the passage of a cargo truck. The goal is to determine the bearing capacity of the construction layers of the road and its subsoil.
Based on the determined deflections and deflection curves, impact elastic modulus is calculated for the individual construction layers of the road and subsoil. Respectively, based on the expected development of traffic intensity, we count the remaining life span for asphalt roads and suggest its reinforcement.
The FWD/HWD impact device is used to:
- measure the deflection and evaluate the bearing capacity of asphalt roads
- measure the deflection and evaluate the bearing capacity of concrete roads (together with the Finite Element Method modeling), including the transfer of load (with/without sliding pins) on joints and cracks and the verification of surface panel support rate
- evaluate the quality of road layers during construction and the finished work when construction is over
- measure repaired roads for inspection
